David Lyman of Visit Bakersfield
If there is anything you ever wanted to know about Bakersfield, ask David Lyman. A lifelong resident, David’s brain is chock full of statistics, history, restaurant info, transportation, festivals, concerts, sporting events, people, places and things. Everything you ever wanted to know about the 142 square miles of Bakersfield and the surrounding areas is on the tip of David’s tongue. He seems to know every square inch of our fair city. His enthusiasm spills out in every word he utters about his hometown. When asked why he stayed here after many years pursuing his education—he holds a Ph.D. in political science—he replies “because it’s home!”
David spends his days promoting, selling and encouraging people to come and spend time and their money here. He is manager, chief cheerleader and ambassador for Visit Bakersfield. Three other team members, including Matt Billingsley, who heads up the sales effort, assist him. Tourism has a significant impact on the economic health of the city. In fact, Visit Bakersfield has booked events that produce an estimated $23 million economic impact. David wants you to know that Bakersfield is aggressively courting additional tourism and convention dollars.
“If your group has plans for a meeting, convention or sporting event, bring them here,” he says.
Bakersfield is open for business.
